1. As part of ongoing formation, Quinquennial programmes was held for the junior priests from 21st to 23rd and 28th to 30th May, 2017 in Chavara Hills. The themes discussed enabled the members for deepening the call and taking proactive initiatives to live the celibate life joyfully and understanding the challenges in today’s world. Congratulations and Gratitude to Rev. Fr. Vicar General, Rev. Fr. Paulson Thaliyath and Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheruparambil.

2. Local Superiors’ Orientation Program was held in South Indian Provinces from 15 May 2017. The provincial council teams took keen interest to organize the program very systematically. A General Councillor was present throughout the program in every province. There was a general appreciation for having organized the program in the province itself. Best wishes to all the new superiors.

3. Rev. Fr. Prior General left for Rome on 22 May 2017 to attend the Union of Superior Generals’ Meeting. He met with all our members in Rome. He had meeting with the Prefect of the Oriental Congregation and the Prefect of the congregation for Catholic Education and other bishops where our members are serving. He left for Peru Mission on 30th May 2017.

4. Rev. Fr. Prior General, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedath, General Councillor and Rev. Fr. Johny Edapulavan, General Auditor spent time with our missionaries in Peru. They visited our mission centres and celebrated mass in our parish communities. All our CMI members assembled on 7th June in Lima and spent time in prayer, reflection, mission experience sharing and discussion on the future prospects. Congratulations to the missionaries for the great work they are doing. The bishops have great appreciation for our members and there is a great scope if more members are joining and a formation program take off over there. Thanks to Missionaries for their generous hospitality. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedath and Rev. Fr. Johny Edapulavan will visit our missionaries in Ecuador along with Rev. Fr. Jose Kuriedath, Provincial from 12th June, 2017.

5. As part of the St. Chavara Family Apostolate initiative, a one-day monthly adoration-cum-intercessory prayer day for CMI Congregation observed on Saturday, 10 June 2017, from 9 am to 4 pm at CMI Prior General's House, Chavara Hills. Members of the St. Chavara Family Apostolate, constituted at the General level and Prior General’s House joined the prayer for the whole day. It will be continued on every second Saturday of the month, 9 am to 4 pm
at Chavara Hills Chapel in the Leadership of the Members of the St. Chavara Family Apostolate under the auspices of CMI General Department of Evangelization and Pastoral Ministry.

6. Mall Chapel ministry in Boston is highly appreciated. Apart from two masses and adoration, our members now offer Holy Mass with the Anointing of the Sick every first Saturday. Based on the request of the people, they will also offer an evening of adoration, confession and recollection every month starting in July. Bishop Mark O'Connell , the auxiliary bishop for our region, will be the main celebrant for the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Jilson Naduviledath, the Director for the creative initiatives. Mall Chapel mission is a learning point for our First World Mission and CMIs can confidently take up innovative ministries elsewhere.

7. KCBC appreciated the CMI congregation in the Kerala Bishops’ Council held in POC, Kochi on 5th June, 2017 for our commitment to provide support to construct 101 houses for the Dalit Catholics in Kerala as part of Chavara House project in the spirit of our House project evolved in GS 37. Rev. Fr. Antony Elamthottam, General Councillor attended the meeting of KCBC.

8. The blessing of the new novitiate house in Budhini, (Bhopal Province) for the students from the North Indian Provinces will be held on 14 June 2017.

9. After the Summer Holidays, academic year commenced in our common study houses in Dharmram after the annual retreat and orientation program. In Samnvaya the orientation program commenced on 12th June, 2017 in Kolchoor. In Pune the orientation program will be held on 16th and 17th June, 2017. The academic year will commence in Darsana on 19th June after the orientations. The first year philosophy students of Darsana spent three weeks in Hindi language training in Poornodaya/Samanvaya Bhopal. It was well organized and well appreciated. Congratulations to Samanvaya and Darsana team.

10. Rev. Fr. Vicar General left for Germany on 12th June, 2017 to meet with our members in Germany. He will preside over the Annual CMI German Delegation Conference to be held from 2nd to 5th July, 2017.

11. Rev. Fr. Prior General will leave for Delhi to meet with His Excellency Giambattista Diquattro, new Apostolic Nuncio to India on 13th June and he will be back in Chavara Hills on 18th June after attending blessing ceremony in Budhini and orientation programmes in Wardha and Pune.

12. The first death anniversary of Rev. Fr. George Thanchan will be observed at 10 am on 4th July, 2017 at Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills with Requiem Holy Mass, special prayers and commemoration Meeting. Let us come together to celebrate the memory of beloved Rev. Fr. George Thanchan and live the legacy he has left for us.

13. Get together of members serving in common houses (except common study houses) in India directly under the Prior General and the animation of their local superiors (including the Rectors of the common study houses) will be held from 12th to 14th July 2017 at Chavara Hills, Kakkanad.

Let us Remember Our Departed Souls:

• Bishop Most Reverent David R Choby, Bishop of Nashville, slept in the Lord on 3rd June, 2017. He has been a great supporter, benefactor, and well-wisher of the CMI fathers working in Nashville Diocese and more especially for the Carmel Spirituality Center at Liberty, TN from the beginning. Let us continue to pray for him.
• Mr.Kochappan Paliakkara (83), beloved father of Rev. Fr. Paulson Paliakkara CMI of Devamatha Province, Thrissur, slept in the Lord 17 May 2017
• Mrs. Mary (100), sister of our late Bishop Januarius Palathuruthy CMI, slept in the Lord on 23 May 2017.
• Mr. K U John Kollammattel beloved father of Rev. Fr. Kurian ( Reji) Kollammattel CMI of Sacred Heart Province, Kochi, slept in the Lord 28 May 2017
• Mr. Thomas (67), beloved elder brother of Rev. Fr. Mathew Kalarickal CMI of St. Thomas Province, Kozhikode, slept in the Lord on 30 May 2017
• Mr. Varghese Kusumalayam (90) beloved father of Rev. Fr. Joseph Kusumalayam CMI of Sacred Heart Province, Kochi, slept in the Lord on 1 June 2017
• Mr. Joseph (70), beloved elder brother of Rev. Fr. George Kalachirayil CMI of Carmel Province, Muvattupuzha, slept in the Lord on 1 june 2017
• Mrs. Reetha Antony (76) beloved mother of Rev. Fr. Sebi Palamattath CMI of Devamatha Province, Thrissur, slept in the Lord 12 June 2017
