News Update 12 June 2019 1. Smriti Sangamam, a gathering of the family members of the departed members of Nirmal Province was held on 26 May 2019 at Chavara Pilgrim Centre, St. Joseph’s Monastery, Mannanam. Rev. Fr. Josey Thamarassery, the Provincial was the main celebrant. There was a good participation of the dear ones of our departed members. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Provincial and team for organizing Smriti Snagamam. 2. Chavara Kudumba Sangamam, gathering of all the family members of the Fathers of St. Paul’s Province, Bhopal was hled at Jerusalem Retreat Centre, Thalore on May 26, 2019. About 450 members participated. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Provincial and Team for organizing such a get together. 3. Chavara cultural Centre and KCBC pro-life Ernakulam Zone have organized and celebrated the world family day on 15 May 2019. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Valiyathazhathu inaugurated the function and Rev. Fr. Varghese Vithayathil CMI, the vicar General delivered the presidential address. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Roby Kannanchira and team for organizing the event. 4. The final profession of 47 scholastics was held in respective provinces on May 25, 2019. Congratulations and thanks to Rev. Fr. Rajesh Kavalackal who accompanied the scholastics in their preparation for the final profession. 5. CMI Constitution Retreat of Deva Matha Province, Thrissur was held at Jerusalem Retreat centre, Thalore from May 26 to 1 June, 2019. Rev. Fr. Antony Njallampuzha CMI was the main preacher of the retreat. Rev. Fr. Walter Thelappilly CMI, Rev. Fr. Davis Panackal CMI, Rev. Fr. Jain Thannickal CMI were the other preachers of the retreat. 6. CMI Constitution Retreat of Dharmaram College was held from May 26 to 1 June, 2019. Rev. Fr. Benny Tharakunnel CMI, Rev. Fr. Peter Kochalumkal CMI, Rev. Fr. Thomas Chathamparampil CMI, Rev. Fr. Kurian Kachapilly CMI, Rev. Fr. Paulson Muthupeedika CMI were the preachers of the retreat. 7. CMI Constitution Retreat of Carmel Vidya Bhavan, Pune was held from June 2-8, 2019. Rev. Fr. Thomas Kochumuttam CMI and Rev. Fr. Arun Chully CMI were the preachers of the retreat. 8. CMI Social apostolate departments in Kerala provinces distributed Educational kits with school bag and books in preparation for the new academic year. 9. Madhuram Ee Jeevitham, a film written and directed by Rev. Fr. Anil Philip Puthuparambil was selected for Dadasheb Phalke International Film Festival, New Delhi and Kala Samruddhi International Film Festival, Mumbai. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Anil. 10. Quinquennial program for the junior priests was held at Chavara Hills from May 22-24, 2019. Rev. Fr. Jose Kuriedath CMI, Provincial Sacred Heart Province Kochi, Rev. Augustine Pamplany CST and Rev. Fr. Varghese Puthussery CMI gave input sessions during the program, followed by personal sharing. 11. Koinonia for the batches 2006-10 was held at Chavara Hills from May 26-28, 2019. Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. Rev. Fr. Thomas Thekkel, Provincial, St. Thomas Province, Kozhikode and Rev. Augustine Pamplany CST gave input on the theme, discernment in discipleship. The participants found the program very useful to reflect on their life and make the right discernment on their way ahead. Congratulations and gratitude to Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheruparambil, General Formation Coordinator, Rev. Fr. Prefect and other members of Chavara Hills for effectively organizing the program. 12. The annual get together of Kerala Conference of Major Superiors (KCMS) was held at Aluva from June 3-4, 2019. Rev. Fr. Prior General and Rev. Provincials or Vicar Provincials from all CMI Kerala Provinces attended the meeting. 13. The academic year commenced in DVK on June 3 with the holy mass by His Excellency Mar Antony Kariyil, Bishop of Mandya and the inaugural ceremony. Rev Fr. Jose Kizhakkekuttu CMI, the registrar welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Kurian Kachappilly, President, DVK, gave the inaugural address. 14. DVK Staff Enhancement Program was held in Christ (Deemed to be University) Campus in Kengery from June 9 to 11, 2019. Rev.Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. Rev. Fr. Thomas C Mathew, Rev. Fr. President – DVK, Deans and Directors and other office bearers made the presentations followed by discussions and decisions to enhance the academic excellence of DVK. Rev. Fr. Rector, Dharmaram College and Rev. Fr. Devasiachan Mukalel led the holy Eucharistic celebration and gave inspiring homilies and Rev. Fr. Anto Amarnad, Rev. Fr. Bijosh and Rev. Fr Raphy Kadavi led the holy hour. Congratulations to the President and DVK family for effectively organizing the program. 15. German Delegation Conference was held from June 2 to 5, 2019 at Katholische Akademie Staplefeld. Rev. Fr. Varghese Vithayathil, Vicar General presided over the meeting. About 112 Fathers from Germany, Austria, Switzerland and Netherland participated in the conference. His Grace Aux, Bp. Dr. Stefan Zekorn from Münster diocese was the chief guest and addressed the community on challenges of German church today and the way to live the Faith alive. Rev. Fr. Joseph Vellappanat was elected as the delegate councilor from the central region to the German Delegation Council in the place of Rev. Fr. Sebastian Elavathingal who returned to India after pastoral service. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Geogekutty Kuttiani, delegate superior and delegate council for having organized the gathering effectively. 16. Zonal Gatherings of North American delegation will be held in Brooklyn, Manroe, Sacramento, Nashville, Jacksonville, Chicago and Canada for the 7 zones in US and Canada. from 10 June- 8 July 2019. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedathu and Rev. Fr. Antony Elamthottam, the general councilors will attend all the sessions along with the Delegate Superior. 17. Congratulations and best wishes to Rev. Fr. Julius Arackal who has been selected and appointed as the Secretary to the Health Commission of CBCI. 18. Congratulations and best wishes to Rev. Fr. Paul Poovathingal CMI who received J. C. Daniel( Father of Malayalam Cinema) Kalashreshta Award 2019 from on 10-6-2019 at Kerala Sahitya Academy Hall, Thrissur. 19. The new Academic year of Darsana, Wardha took off with the arrival of 26 first year students on June 10. Prior to their their coming to Darsana, they had a 5 weeks long Intensive Language Course in Hindi and English at Poornodaya, Bhopal. Disregarding the intense summer heat of up to 47 celsius, the newcomers are wholeheartedly into the week-long orientation programme. The formal opening of the academic year is scheduled for 17 June. The total strength of Darsana this year will be 61, with 53 brothers and 8 Fathers. Fr. Blessen Pettickal of Devamatha Province has joined Darsana. Darsana will also have 34 Claretian brothers as day scholars for philosophy and around 30 Atmadarsan students for the spirituality programme. The newly built staff block in Darsana was blessed on June 11. 20. The orientation programme and the staff live-together at Samanvaya leading up to the inauguration of the academic year will be held at Jagdalpur between 10-15 June, 2019. The week-long programme was taken by the 7 first year theology students and the members of the staff from all the Regional Centres of Samanvaya. Rev. Fr. Benny Thettayil CMI, Dean of Studies, led the programme in which input sessions were given by Rev. Fr. John Eattanial CMI, Rev. Fr. Jose Chittooparampil CMI, Rev. Fr. Naiju Kalambukatt CMI and Rev. Fr. Benny Thettayil CMI. The inauguration of the academic year will be on 12 June, 2019. Bp. Joseph Kollamparampil of Jagdalpur diocese will preside over the Holy Eucharist and the lectio brevis will be delivered by Fr. Josey Thamarassery, Provincial, Nirmal Province, Jagdalpur. Werner Chakkalakal CMI (90) (St. Paul Province, Bhopal) was called to eternal reward on 01 June 2019. He was a great CMI religious who was a committed and erudite scholar in the fields of Philosophy and sociology. He has made enormous contributions in the realm of social work and commitment for the poor. Even at the fag end of his life, he was eager to undertake projects for the wellbeing of the people at large. His great passion and mission was to promote the Christian faith and the gospel values and the life of Jesus to the forefront. His Funeral was on Tuesday, 04 June 2019 at 02.30 pm at Sagar Bhavan, Thrissur. ? Rev. Fr. Thomas Ernest Palathra CMI (83) (St. Joseph Province, Thiruvanthapuram) was called to eternal reward on 3 June 2019. He began his apostolate as a teacher at St. Vincent School, Pala. He was a committed and zealous missionary who served the people of God at Ambikapur and Jagdalpur. Later on he became a successful Charismatic Retreat preacher, who preached retreats almost all over North India. His funeral was held on Wednesday, 05 June 2019 at 2.30 pm at Sacred Heart Church, Chethipuzha. ? Mr. Jose Joseph Vadaparampil (75) beloved younger brother of Rev. Fr.Thomas Vadaparampil CMI (Nirmal Province, Jagdalpur) was called to eternal reward on 23 May 2019. The funeral was on Saturday, 25 May 2019 at 3.00 pm at Cathedral Church Changanassery. ? Mr. Varkey Mathew (Appachan) Kallampally(82) Beloved Father of Rev. Fr. Joseph Kallampally(Chavara Vice - Province, Bhavanagar) was called to eternal rest on 28 May 2019. His funeral was on wednesday, 29 May 2019 at 03.30 pm at St.Antony's Church, Anakkal, Kanjirappally. ? Mrs. Elsy Manuel (60), beloved sister of Rev. Fr. Baby Thazhathedath CMI (St. Paul's Province, Mysore) was called to eternal reward on 04 June 2019. Funeral was held on 05 June 2019 at 2 pm at St. Sebastian's Church, Arikuzha, near Vazhakkulam. ? NEWS UPDATE (22-06-2018) 1. The Renewal programme for our members in UK was held at St. Joseph’s Pastoral Centre, Wembley, from 12 to 14 June 2018. Fr. John Menonkari, the Coordinator General for UK, gave the welcome address. Fr. Johny Edapulavan, the General Auditor and the coordinator of the renewal programme in UK, felicitated the gathering. After the self-introduction and sharing of the members, Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the orientation talk. Rev. Fr. Philip Kuzhiparambil, Fr. Abraham Kandathinkara, Fr. Johnson Kattiparambil, Fr. Joy Alappat, Fr. George Areekuzhy presented the papers on renewal themes and had a very good discussion on practical implications and an action plan was charted out. All the members took active part in the discussion with their contributions. All the ten members in England and Wales actively participated in the renewal programme. Thanks to Fr. John Menonkari, Fr. Jose Kaduthanam and Fr. Tebin Puthenpurackal for organizing the programme very well. 2. The Renewal programme for our members in Europe (except Italy and UK) was held in Rosrath, Germany from 17 to 20 June 2018. Fr. Georgekutty Kuttiyanickal, the Delegate Superior welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. His Eminence Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, celebrated the Holy Mass and gave the message. Cardinal spent half a day with our community discussing on our mission in Germany. Fr. Shaji Kochuthara, Fr. Varghese Vithayathil, Vicar General, Fr. Sebastian Elavathingal and Fr. Varghese Plackal presented papers and Fr. Lukose Vallikattukuzhy, Fr. Martin Payyappilly, Fr. Jose Kuzhichalil, Fr. Mani Kuzhikandathil made supplementary presentations on different topics. Dr. George Arickal spoke on the perception on CMI from an outsider's perspective. Group discussion was held and an action plan was evolved. Congratulations to Fr. Vicar General, Fr. Delegate Superior, Councillors of delegation Council and Fr. Jose Vadakkekara and other committee members for organizing the programme very systematically. 3. After the Summer Holidays, academic year commenced in our common study houses - in Dharmram after the annual retreat, renewal and orientation programme; in Samanvaya after the orientation programme on 11-15 June 2018 at Kolchoor; in Darsana, Wardha after the orientation programme from 13-14 June 2018. In Pune the orientation program will be held on 18-20 July 2018. The first year philosophy students of Darsana spent three weeks in Hindi language training in Poornodaya/Samanvaya Bhopal. It was well organized and well appreciated. Congratulations to Samanvaya and Darsana team. 4. An Iftar Virunnu was organized at Chavara Cultural centre on 16 June 2018, to promote inter-religious fellowship. Congrats to Fr. Roby Kannanchira and his team. 5. His Eminence Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, Archbishop of Cologne, will visit CMI Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, Our Mother House and Chavara Pilgrim Centre, Mannanam, Dharmaram College, Bangalore in the month of July. He will be our special guest for the feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16 July 2018. 6. News Update

1. Rev. Fr. Prior General made the canonical visitation of Preshitha Provincial House, Coimbatore, during 14-15 May 2018. The renewal programme was organized from 15-17 May 2018. In the inaugural session, Rev. Fr. Provincial welcomed the members and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the orientation talk. Fr. Anil Thalakottoor, Fr. Davis Thattil, Fr. Wilson Chakiath, Fr. Saju Chackalackal, and Fr. Joy Vattoly presented the topics and the participants had serious discussion and evolved an action plan. On 18 May, the Province Gathering was held in the presence of the members of General Council and the General Auditor, which was followed by the meeting of superiors and heads of institutions and GC-PC. 2. Rev. Fr. Prior General and Rev. Fr. Johny Edapulavan, the General Auditor, left for Rome on 23 May 2018. The renewal programme and canonical visitation were held in CMI Procura, Rome, from 24-26 May 2018. Fr. Cherian Thunduparampil, the Procurator General, welcomed the gathering. Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the orientation talk. Fr. Biju Karukappallil, Fr. Joshy Nellivelil, Fr. Anto Nayankara, Fr. Jogi Marangatt, Fr. Siby Kavatt, Fr. Bose Philip Mannaparampil, Fr. Joby Kochumuttom and Fr. Anto Chakiath presented the topics and led the discussions. All the 16 members in Italy participated actively in the renewal programme. 3. Superior Generals of Pallotine, Claretian, MSFS and Gabriel Brothers met in CMI Procura on 29 May 2018 for lunch. Rev. Fr. Prior General welcomed them and CMI community had an informal interaction with the heads of different congregations. Fr. Cherian Thunduparampil, the Procurator General, facilitated the gathering. Rev. Fr. Prior General along with the General Auditor and Procurator General visited OCD Generalate and spent time in discussion with OCD Prior General and his Councillors. 4. The annual retreat began in Dharmaram College on 25 May 2018. Mar Thomas Tharayil, Auxiliary Bishop of Changanassery Archdiocese is the retreat preacher. 5. NEWS UPDATE (22-06-2018) 1. The Renewal programme for our members in the UK was held at St. Joseph’s Pastoral Centre, Wembley, from 12 to 14 June 2018. Fr. John Menonkari, the Coordinator General for UK, gave the welcome address. Fr. Johny Edapulavan, the General Auditor and the coordinator of the renewal programme in UK, felicitated the gathering. After the self-introduction and sharing of the members, Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the orientation talk. Rev. Fr. Philip Kuzhiparambil, Fr. Abraham Kandathinkara, Fr. Johnson Kattiparambil, Fr. Joy Alappat, Fr. George Areekuzhy presented the papers on renewal themes and had a very good discussion on practical implications and an action plan was charted out. All the members took active part in the discussion with their contributions. All the ten members in England and Wales actively participated in the renewal programme. Thanks to Fr. John Menonkari, Fr. Jose Kaduthanam and Fr. Tebin Puthenpurackal for organizing the programme very well. 2. The Renewal programme for our members in Europe (except Italy and UK) was held in Rosrath, Germany from 17 to 20 June 2018. Fr. Georgekutty Kuttiyanickal, the Delegate Superior welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. His Eminence Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, celebrated the Holy Mass and gave the message. Cardinal spent half a day with our community discussing on our mission in Germany. Fr. Shaji Kochuthara, Fr. Varghese Vithayathil, Vicar General, Fr. Sebastian Elavathingal and Fr. Varghese Plackal presented papers and Fr. Lukose Vallikattukuzhy, Fr. Martin Payyappilly, Fr. Jose Kuzhichalil, Fr. Mani Kuzhikandathil made supplementary presentations on different topics. Dr. George Arickal spoke on the perception on CMI from an outsider's perspective. Group discussion was held and an action plan was evolved. Congratulations to Fr. Vicar General, Fr. Delegate Superior, Councillors of delegation Council and Fr. Jose Vadakkekara and other committee members for organizing the programme very systematically. 3. After the Summer Holidays, academic year commenced in our common study houses - in Dharmram after the annual retreat, renewal and orientation programme; in Samanvaya after the orientation programme on 11-15 June 2018 at Kolchoor; in Darsana, Wardha after the orientation programme from 13-14 June 2018. In Pune the orientation program will be held on 18-20 July 2018. The first year philosophy students of Darsana spent three weeks in Hindi language training in Poornodaya/Samanvaya Bhopal. It was well organized and well appreciated. Congratulations to Samanvaya and Darsana team. 4. An Iftar Virunnu was organized at Chavara Cultural centre on 16 June 2018, to promote inter-religious fellowship. Congrats to Fr. Roby Kannanchira and his team. 5. His Eminence Cardinal Rainer Maria Woelki, Archbishop of Cologne, will visit CMI Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, Our Mother House and Chavara Pilgrim Centre, Mannanam, Dharmaram College, Bangalore in the month of July. He will be our special guest for the feast of our Lady of Mount Carmel on 16 July 2018. 6. Jose Alex Oruthayappilly who was chosen for lifetime achievement award in social work and Rev. Fr. Jose Antony Padinjareparambil for his contribution in uplifting the poor through VOSARD. The award was presented at Rajagiri College of Social Sciences by Mr. Antony Dominic, Honourable Chief Justice of Kerala. 10.Students of Mechanical Engineering of Christ Engineering College, Irinjalakuda designed a customized wheelchair for the physically challenged and presented 37 wheelchairs to the deserving persons as part of their project Wheel Care. Congratulations to the social initiative taken up by Christ College. 11.40 hours adoration was held at St. Joseph’s Monastery, Mannanam from April 19-21, 2018. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Chamathara and Rev. Fr. Sebastian Elanjickal, Provincials of Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam were the main celebrants on the first and final day of the adoration. 1. Celebrating Celibacy, an ongoing formation program for CMIs ordained in 2016 was held from 13 to 15 March 2018, at CMI Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, Kakkanad. Rev. Fr. Vicar General welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. Rev. Fr. Augustine Pamplani and Adovcate Litto Palathingal were the resource persons. The participants made the personal sharing based on their one year experience as a priest, reflected on their life and set a direction for the future and had opportunity for confession. Thanks to Rev. Fr. Joshy Cheruprambil, the General Formation Coordinator and Rev. Fr. Paul Chakkanikunnel, the Prefect and Chavara Hills family. 2. Rev. Fr. Prior General made the canonical visitation in Chavara Bhavan - Kainakary, St. Joseph’s Ashram - Karikkamury, Chavara Contemplative Ashram - Kakkadampoil and St. Elias Aranyashram -Niravilpuzha from 15th to 20th March, 2018. 3. 1. Let us pray for peace and unity in Church in India. Let us ask the intercession of our beloved founder, St. Kuriakose Elias Chavara for the amicable settlement of the issues connected with the land deals in Ernakulam Angamaly Archdiocese. Along with our Friday Fasting on 16th March 2018, let us spend time with the Eucharistic Lord to pray for our Major Archbishop, bishops, priests, religious and the laity. 2. Atrocities against Christians and other minorities are on rise in India. Pushpa Mission Hospital, Ujain was attacked by 60 masked men and they roughed up nurses and other staff members. They forcibly occupied part of a Catholic hospital’s land. Let us be united in prayer for maintaining constitutional rights and enhancing the sense of equality, fraternity and nonviolence in our mother country. 3. Rev. Fr. Tom Uzhunnalil SDB visited Chavara Hills on 8 March 2018 and spent time with Chavara Hills community and shared his experience of 557 days of terrorist captivity in war-torn Yemen. It was a touching experience to listen to his missionary passion and his God experience during the days in captivity. 4. Gathering of CMIs ordained between 1960 and 1969 was held from 9 March 2018 to 11 March 2018 at Chavara Hills. 73 members attended the programme. Rev. Fr. Vicar General welcomed the gathering and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the inaugural message. Rev. Fr. Paul Thelakkat and Rev. Fr. Augustine Pamplany CST gave inputs. The personal sharing of experiences of the participants was very enriching for the entire community. Thanks to the General Council Team, Rev. Fr. Special prayers were held during the adoration and Holy Mass for the unity of mother Church. 5. The Silver Jubilee of Episcopal Ordination of Mar Simon Stock Palathara was celebrated in CMI Prior General’s House on 11th January, 2018. 1. The feast of St. Kuriakose Elias was celebrated with devotion and fervor at Mannanam. Rev. Fr. Prior General and the newly ordained priests prayed at the tomb of our founder and celebrated the Holy Eucharist along with other Fathers. Rev. Fr. Saju Chackalackal, General Councillor, led the novena prayers. The homily was given by Fr. Jojo Manaliparambil. 2. The newly ordained priests were given a warm reception at Chavara Hills on 4th and 5th January. The newly ordained priests shared their experiences and expectations. They celebrated the Holy Eucharist led by Rev. Fr. Binto, the former regent in Chavara Hills and Rev. Fr. Alexander Mutua Muli from Kenya gave the homily. 3. CMI Family Day was celebrated meaningfully with a simple ceremony of prayer, reflection, greetings and honouring the members who contributed uniquely in special ministries. In connection with 150th year celebration of Chavarul, Rev. Fr. Benny Nalkara CMI and Mr. John Paul addressed the gathering with insights to apply Chavarul to our community life and apostolic life. Rev. Fr. Swami Sadanand was honoured posthumously for his prophetic presence and ministry amidst us. 15 CMIs, were honored for their unique personal contributions in challenging ministries. Rev. Fr. Vicar General welcomed the gathering, Rev. Fr. Thomas Thekkel gave the felicitation address and Rev. Fr. Prior General gave the benedictory address. It was truly a family day remembering the founding fathers and their legacy with the presence of aspirants, newly professed and the newly ordained, Major Superiors and large group of members from our communities. 4. A joint meeting of the Major Superiors with Provincial Councillors for Education and Mass Media was held on 4th January. The meeting addressed the relevant issues facing the Educational institutions. It was decided to have a CMI Education Board and to register it and to start a professional office for education department. The meeting emphasized on transparency and accountability in admission and appointment and in financial matters. 5. The Meeting of the Provincials with the General Council was held on 4th and 5th January 2018 in the Prior General’s House, Kakkanad. The agenda consisted of Renewal 2018, Formation and Ongoing formation, common pooling and sharing among houses in the province, among provinces and Congregation levels, reaching out to families, children and youth through our houses and institutions, Homes for the Dalit Christians Project and Ockhi Cyclone Relief work. 6. The Quinquennial programme of the year 2017, ongoing formation for the young priests, was held from 21 December 2017 to 23 December at Chavara Hills. 7. Our members who celebrate their Golden Jubilee of Religious profession will assemble at Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, from 13th to 15th January 2018. 8.
