NEWS UPDATE

1. Major Superiors Meeting and meeting of the Superiors with the Staff of Major Study Houses and Personnel Board were held at Dharmaram College Bangalore from 28th September, 2017 to 1st October, 2017.
2. CMI Education Summit was held in Christ University, Kengery Campus, Bangalore from September 30 to October 2, 2017. Rev. Fr. Prior General inaugurated the meeting. Prof. John Varghese, Principal, St. Stephen’s College, Delhi gave the keynote address on the Mission of Christ. Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedathu, Rev. Fr. Ignasi Muthu SJ, Rev. Fr. Saji Varghese SDB, Sir Guilherme Vaz, Prof L. M Prasad and Mrs. Diana Joseph presented the papers on very relevant themes. Group discussion and presentation on the best practices in CMI institutions were held. 150 CMI educators attended the program apart from the Major Superiors, General Council team, and the Rectors of Major Study Houses. Thanks to Christ University team for hosting the event. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Sebastian Thekkedathu, General Councillor for organizing such historic CMI Education Summit. A draft declaration on Bangalore Summit was approved by the gathering.


3. A meeting of the National Executive Body of the Carmelite Family of India (CFI) was held at St. Joseph's Monastery of OCD Fathers in Mangalore on Saturday, 23 September 2017. Representatives from different Carmelite congregations participated and discussed various concerns of Indian Carmelites. Fr. Saju Chackalackal, General Councillor for Evangelization and Pastoral Ministry, represented our CMI Congregation. CFI calls for the regular meetings of its regional chapters, in which representatives of all our Provinces could join. A national level seminar, under the auspices of CFI, is proposed to be held on the theme "Contemplation and Proclamation," which most likely will be held in February 2018 at CMI Prior General's House, Chavara Hills, Kochi.
4. The Priestly Ordination of Fr. Alexander MutuaMuli , 7th Priest from Kenya, was held on Sunday 1 October at Mbiuni, Kenya. It was a solemn celebration of faith of our Mission. Almost all our fathers, brothers, sisters and more than 3500 people from different parishes took part in the celebration. Congrats to Rev. Fr. Johny T, Fr. B. Chathely, Fr. Kallely, Fr. Karukuttikaran, Fr. Ajith and all our CMI fathers and brothers who made it a grand success and a proclamation. All our fathers and brothers are working hard for the growth of Kenyan mission.

5. CMI Social Apostolate Department has come out with the Report of the Years 2014-17 with the title Yogdan. Congratulations to Rev. Fr. Varghese Vithayathil, Vicar General and Councillor for Social Apostolate for the efforts to compile the data from the Provinces and institutions directly under Generalate. Thanks to CEVA team for their hard work in realizing the project.
6. The History of Dharmaram College from 1957 to 2017 was released by Rev. Fr. Prior General giving a copy to Rev. Fr. Paul Parakattel, Provincial, Carmel Province Muvattupuzha on 28 September, 2017 in Dharmaram College. Congratulations and Thanks to the efforts of Rev. Fr. Thomas Aykara, former Rector and Rev. Fr. George Edayadiyil, Rector, and Rev. Fr. Thomas Vithayathil, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kalayil, Rev. Fr. Francis Thonnippara, Rev. Fr. Jose Chennattussery, Rev. Fr. Sebastian Edathikavil and Rev. Fr. Joseph Kureethara, the Editors.
7. In the context of celebrating World Mission Day in the month of October and as a mark of fraternal and prayerful solidarity with our CMI brethren around the world let us dedicate this month for our CMI members engaged in mission in each country and pray for them and the success of their mission.
8. Aspirants' Rectors Meetings will be held from 5 October 2017 to 08 October 2017 at Chavara Hills

9. Formation Coordinators and Vocation Promoters Meeting will be held from 07 October 2017 to 08 October 2017 at Chavara Hills.
10. On 8 October 2017 CMI Freshers Meet (I Year Aspirants of 8 Southern Provinces) will be held at Chavara Hills from 08 am to 04 pm
11. Meeting of the scholastics who study in College for graduation and post graduation in the South Indian Provinces will be held in Chavara Hills from 28 to 29 October 2017.
12. CMI Theologians and Philosophers Forum will be held in DVK Bangalore on 27th and 28th October 2017. All our members who have been in Ecclesiastical Education shall attend the program in order to reflect seriously on CMI School of thought on Philosophy and Theology based on the legacy given by our founding fathers.
13. Rev. Fr. Prior General will leave for Jammu Kashmir and Punjab to meet with our missionaries, on 9th October and will be back on 21st October, 2017.
14. Our members who celebrate their Golden Jubilee of Religious profession will assemble in Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, from 13th to 15th January, 2018.
15. Members who celebrate their Golden Jubilee of Priestly Ordination will meet in Prior General’s House, Chavara Hills, from 17th to 19th January, 2018
